When we were seen as "Sick Men from East Asia", we were called The Peril.
When we strived to get stronger, we are called The Threat.

When we closed our doors to the world, you forced them open with drugs and guns.
When we finally embraced Free Trade, you blame us for taking away your jobs.

When we were falling apart, you marched in your troops and robbed us blind.
When we put the broken pieces back together again, "Free Tibet" you screamed, it was an invasion!

So, we tried Communism, you hated us for being Communists.
Then we learned from Capitalism, you hated us for being Capitalists.

When we had a billion people, you said "The planet is starving."
So we tried to limit our population, you said it was Human Rights Abuse.

When we were poor, you think we are dogs.
When we loan you cash, you blame us for your debts.

When we build our industries, you blame us for global warming.
When we sell you goods you can afford, you blame us for dumping inferior products.

When we buy oil, you called that exploitation and assisting genocide.
When you fight for oil, you called that Liberation of Its People.

When we were lost in chaos and rampage, you wanted Rules of Law for us.
When we uphold our law and order against violence, you called that Violating Human Rights.

When we were silent, you said we have No Free Speech.
When we are NOW silent no more, you say we are merely "Brainwashed".

"Why do you hate us so much?" We asked.
"No" You answered, "We don't hate you."
Truth is we really don't hate you either, but do you understand us?
"Of course we do" You said, "We have BBC, CNN and AFPs."
So we ask you now "What do you really know and want from us?"
And "Why do you find it SO hard to accept us?"

hang on a  minute. chinese people say they DONT have free speech dont make this a whitey thing. millions of chinese suffer at the hands of thuggery that is traced back to the govt which is above the law. dont pull the old nationalist card. too many chinese people suffer for that reason. remember that the western world is full of chiense people on the run. we live next door to them and they are clear about why they live in australia, canada, usa etc. could u imagine if the govt of these countries opened the doors up, god there would be nobody left in china.

That was possibly one of the clumsiest pieces of obvious propaganda I have ever seen.

Stalin would be proud.

If you want to win over the west ... NEVER EVER start a piece off with Chairman Mao.

And then the "So solly meee no speaky engrish velly goodly', crap just floors it.

I even think some Chinese people will be offended by including Mao ... although others seem to worship him as a deity.

As a westerner viewing it, and I actually supports the Chinese on this issue, this should be pulled off the internet, burned along with the author.

It left me with incredibly negative feelings about China.

It has been predicted that after 2007, China will have 100 years of good fortune.  I think the riot in Tibet and the media distortion are in fact blessings in disguise, for they allow us to see through a lot of facade at colossal costs to the Westerners.  They might have caused a little trouble and vented their frustration and anger, but the price is they will never be trusted by any of us again.

True, we are humiliated.  That is why we will never forget.

The government stands to gain the most for we will be relaying around it.  They have the kind of passionate support and solidarity of people that a Western democratically elected leader can only dream and drool for.

Smokie, allow me to be frank, but you do not think very much of Chairman Mao because you are not on the same level as this great man to appreciate his unthinkable intelligence and foresight as a military strategist and organizer and man at the helm.

No ... as a military commander and sheer force of numbers he did some amazing things however, like many 'war' leaders, Churchill Included, he should have stepped down and left the day to day running of the state to people educated in those areas.

He was just plain and simply too incompetent to have held that office for so long and to have killed so many people out of ignorance (ie. yes most of the deaths were accidents due to his stupidity)

There are still farms in the countryside here that have billets of pig iron that were never picked up and are made from the tools and the door hinges on the farm.

What Mao knew about economics, geography, geology and agriculture could be written on a postage stamp.

The fact he could quote Marx was merely an affectation that kept the masses happy as they starved.

You have to remember, Mao's government failed and failed in a big way. What exists now is something completely new and different and destroys everything Mao stood for ... and that is why it has been moderately successful.

Mao didnt realize there was a need for today's China until it was too late.

He readily admitted that 30% of his policies didn't work.

He destroyed the intellects, the culture and the artefacts.

If it wasn't for the fact that a good portion of China's antiquities were removed before the revolution, almost all of your cultural heritage would have been destroyed.

Now you lobby to have them returned.

The only reason The CCP and the KMT can talk together regarding that little island off the southern coast is because the current CCP has in effect BECOME the KMT.

The wrong government was sent into exile on Formosa.

writtent his before but went to maos birthplace in shaoshan. actually been many times. first time went stayed for a week. it is a little village. did a ot of bike riding . incredible country side. loved it. one of best places been to in china. mao was a nasty little dictator who killed millions in his own honour. a parasite who fed off the dreams of the xin hua. most of my friends i had in nanning were parentless because of his and his troikas actions. zhou enlaisgreatest crime was to sit in silence. he was no trotskyu who had the guts to stand up and fight

Yes, unfortunately, he is the only person presented to most Chinese as a hero during their education and they have little else to compare him to.

And most of his 'marvellous feats' didn't actually work.
